I love to op shop. I love to repurpose. Ahhhhh just the thought of upcycling something makes my knees weak. I’m sure my fellow op shop experts out there can relate when I say it becomes ridiculously addictive searching for the ideal reasonably priced gem hidden in the awkward to get to shelves of an op shop. To find the treasures you’ve got to be willing to get down and dirty and get into positions you didn’t think were possible to reach them (yes, I am still talking about thrift shopping I assure you ha)
I’m pretty sure I only have one op shop left in Rockhampton I’m yet to explore – Anglicare I’m coming for you soon!
I’ve found some beauties lately, and not all at op shops. I discovered Trendy Trash a few weeks ago (aka the tip shop) and tell you what, I was in absolute HEAVEN sifting through all the stuff there. I was fortunate to come across a really cool dark green suitcase and it was only TEN DOLLARS. Absolute BARGAIN. Old suitcases are pretty trendy at the moment and you’ll find people are selling them online for silly prices because they’re so trendy. I was stoked to find one in such good condition and for a great price as well. It’s the small wins that make me happy!
I’d found a really cool diy project on pinterest that turned a suitcase into a table and I asked David my partner to help me build it. 2 days and a lot of swearing later we finished it. Downstairs I’d found some lovely older style table legs that look perfect attached to the suitcase. It’s now sitting by the window with my printer on it and every time I look at it I smile.
It’s the best feeling creating something and have it on display in your home. It gives you a sense of pride and reminds you of the perseverance and love that went into the project.
Let me know what DIY’s you’ve been up to at home. I love a bit of inspo!
