Ahhhh, doggos. If you’re anything like me the thought of having your dog at your wedding is pretty irresistible. My Border Collie Morty is a big puzzle piece in the jigsaw of my life and it would be incredible to include him in our big day somehow.
More and more people are including pets in their weddings, mainly as the ringbearer (because why not really?). My dog would freak out having something tied on him and would just keep trying to shake/bite it off so that’s not an option for us unfortunately. Nothing worse than a convulsing dog walking down the aisle…
A cake topper with yourself, your husband/bride and…. your dog? Sure, go for it! It’s certainly not as weird as letting your dog cut the cake.
Or you could have your dog walk you down the aisle. You may snigger, but for some people who don’t want to be “given away” by a parent it might suit them perfectly. You’d certainly elicit plenty of “awww’s” from the crowd and your dog would be smothered in cuddles after the ceremony for doing such a good job.
At the photobooth. Who doesn’t love to take a selfie with a dog?! Especially the bride and grooms. Just think of all the props that could be utilized – oversized sunglasses, eyepatches, tiny capes! He’d be a superstar. And of course, you would make sure he was in (most of) your wedding photos. Cuteness overload.
Last, but not least – make sure you hire a dog handler. As well behaved as your dog may be at home, being in amongst a busy wedding will probably be an unfamiliar environment for him/her. An experienced dog handler is your safest bet to ensure that your dog is well behaved and minded when you are indisposed. I was surprised to find there is such a thing as a Wedding Pet Assistant. Fantastic idea!
